The government has designated a building within Dhaka Cantonment to function as a temporary jail.

According to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday, the decision came a day after authorities announced that 15 army officers wanted by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for alleged crimes against humanity had been taken into army custody, reports UNB.

On Saturday, the Bangladesh Army confirmed that 15 officers—accused of involvement in enforced disappearances and crimes against humanity—were detained following the issuance of arrest warrants.

Major General Md Hakimuzzaman, Adjutant General of the Bangladesh Army, told reporters at a press conference in Dhaka Cantonment that among those detained, 14 are serving officers and one is on the LPR list, while another officer failed to respond to the notice.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the ICT had issued arrest warrants for 30 individuals in two cases involving the disappearance and torture of opposition figures during the Awami League regime.

Of the 30 accused, 17 face charges linked to torture at the Task Force Interrogation (TFI) cell of the RAB, while 13 are accused of torture at the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC).
