Government to Establish Trade Negotiation Body to Tackle Emerging Challenges: Dr. Anisuzzaman

The interim government will establish a dedicated and powerful trade negotiating body to tackle trade-related challenges as Bangladesh approaches its graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status in November 2026, according to Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. Dr. Chowdhury announced that the formation of this body, which will be led by a senior government official, began today. He shared this information during a press briefing following a meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and experts regarding LDC graduation. The meeting, held at the Chief Adviser’s Office, focused on Bangladesh’s preparations for the transition. Dr. Chowdhury expressed satisfaction with the progress made, adding that a committee is being formed to monitor and address potential challenges. A comprehensive list of these challenges has been compiled, and he expressed confidence that Bangladesh will successfully navigate its graduation. He dismissed the idea of delaying the graduation as irrational and emphasized that the government is mobilizing domestic resources and enacting policy measures to mitigate any post-graduation challenges. On the country’s RMG sector, he assured that it would not face significant turbulence, as Bangladesh will continue to benefit from international facilities. Dr. Chowdhury also identified governance as a key challenge but reassured that precautionary measures are being put in place to ensure a smooth transition. The press briefing was also attended by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
