BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Emphasizes Women's Safety as a Key Measure of a Modern State

  • BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir highlighted the significance of ensuring women's safety in defining a modern state.
  • "Women's safety is the most crucial determinant of a modern state. We must reject all forms of extremism, hatred, and disrespect towards women. Therefore, we urge the interim government to strengthen law and order," he stated in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday morning, ahead of International Women's Day.
  • He pointed out that over the past 15 years, thousands of men and women have suffered enforced disappearances, killings, and torture, leaving women in those families to endure severe hardships.
  • Fakhrul credited Bangladeshi women for initiating a movement in July, which was later joined by people of all faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists.
  • "We aspire to build a Bangladesh where law enforcement prioritizes the security of all citizens. Every individual, regardless of gender, age, or profession, should feel safe in their homes, streets, universities, and workplaces, with their self-respect upheld," he asserted.
  • He reiterated that extremism has no place in a Bangladesh free from fascism.
  • Marking International Women's Day on 8 March, he emphasized, "Women are equal partners in our progress. On this occasion, let us take concrete steps to accelerate our nation's advancement."
