DMP Commissioner: Multi-Tier Security Arrangements in Place for Central Shaheed Minar
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali announced on Thursday that comprehensive multi-layered security measures have been implemented at the Central Shaheed Minar ahead of 21 February. He assured that there is no security threat during the observance of Language Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
According to him, floral tributes will be conducted in three phases, with VVIPs and VIPs paying their respects from 12:01 AM to 12:40 AM.
During a security briefing at the Central Shaheed Minar premises, the DMP commissioner outlined safety measures and traffic guidelines for 21 February. Before the briefing, he personally inspected the area to assess security arrangements. He confirmed that the International Mother Language Day program will begin at 12:01 AM, as per tradition, and the day will be observed with due solemnity. Once VVIPs and VIPs complete their tributes, the Palashi intersection entry route will be opened for the general public to pay their respects.
Commissioner Sajjat Ali urged visitors to follow the designated schedule and maintain order while paying homage.
Security and Traffic Measures
The DMP commissioner detailed that law enforcement personnel will be deployed from 5:00 PM today until 3:00 PM tomorrow to ensure security in the vicinity of Shaheed Minar.
Visitors were advised to safeguard their personal belongings, such as mobile phones and wallets. Additionally, a mobile police unit will be stationed within a one-kilometre radius to respond to any emergencies.
Md Sarwar, Additional Commissioner of DMP Traffic Department, stated that vehicular movement would be restricted at seven key points to ensure smooth traffic flow and security. These locations include:
- Shahbagh Crossing
- Nilkhet Crossing
- Shahidullah Hall Crossing
- High Court Crossing
- Chankharpul Crossing
- Palashi Crossing
- Bakshibazar Crossing
Prescribed Entry & Exit Routes
- Entry Route: Palashi Crossing → Sculpture Crossing → Jagannath Hall Crossing
- Exit Route: Ramna Crossing → Doel Chattar
No other routes will be permitted for exit.
The DMP commissioner urged all attendees to cooperate with authorities and adhere to the designated security and traffic measures for a smooth and respectful observance of 21 February.
