Dhaka University suspends student over sexual harassment of writ petitioner
The petition resulted in a temporary court order halting the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.

Dhaka University (DU) has suspended Ali Hussain, a Sociology student from the 2020–21 academic session, for six months on charges of cyberbullying a female student on social media.
The decision was announced on Tuesday following a recommendation from the Proctorial Fact-Finding Committee.
Ali Hussain, class roll 54 and registration number 2020212768, is a resident of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall. In addition to the suspension, the case has been referred to the university’s Sexual Harassment Committee for further investigation.
Confirming the matter, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, acting director of DU’s Public Relations Department, said disciplinary measures were taken based on the findings of the probe body.
On Monday, Ali Hussain posted on Facebook, calling on DU student leaders to march demanding the gang rape of BM Fahmida Alam in retaliation for her writ petition.
That petition had led to a short-term court order halting the DUCSU elections, sparking widespread protests from student leaders.
Before the stay order was lifted, Ali Hussain’s post triggered outrage for inciting violence against the petitioner.
