Demands Of Hindu Community Will Be Fulfilled Gradually: Info Adviser

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuz Alam has said that the rightful demands of the Hindu community will be met gradually.

He expressed hope that future governments would also remain dedicated to protecting the rights and welfare of the country’s Hindu citizens.

Speaking at the Sharadiya Durga Utsob celebration at Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall on Wednesday evening, the adviser extended his greetings to the Hindu community. “The heritage of the Hindu community is an inseparable part of our national history. The history of Bangladesh reflects unity between Hindus and Muslims and their joint struggle for justice and freedom,” he said.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s inclusive and multicultural identity, Mahfuz Alam underscored the importance of communal harmony. “We are committed to building a Bangladesh enriched with diverse languages, cultures and traditions, based on mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” he added.

The adviser noted that this year’s Durga Puja was being celebrated in a more vibrant and festive spirit than in previous years. “The government has taken effective steps to ensure a peaceful and joyful celebration for everyone,” he said, thanking all involved for their cooperation.

Reflecting on the July uprising, Mahfuz Alam sharply criticized the then Sheikh Hasina-led government’s violent actions. “Under direct orders of the former prime minister, civilians were fired upon and killed from helicopters,” he alleged, while paying tribute to Hindu community members who lost their lives in the uprising.

Education Adviser Prof Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Dhaka University political science professor Tasneem Siddiqui, and members of the Durga Utsob Celebration Committee were also present.

Later in the evening, Mahfuz Alam visited the Dhakeshwari Puja Mandap, where he exchanged Durga Puja greetings with members of the Hindu community.
