Court orders the seizure of Shakib Al Hasan's assets.

The court has ordered the seizure of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan's assets in connection with a cheque fraud case involving approximately Tk4.15 crore from IFIC Bank.

On Monday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the order.

IFIC Bank’s Public Relations Officer, Sahibur Rahman, filed the case on December 15 against Shakib Al Hasan and three others—Gazi Shahagir Hossain, Managing Director of Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm; Imdadul Haque, Director; and Malaika Begum. The company, Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm, has also been named as an accused.

On December 18, the court summoned the accused. That day, Imdadul Haque surrendered and secured bail. However, as Malaika Begum had passed away, a death report was requested.

Shakib Al Hasan and Gazi Shahagir Hossain failed to appear in court, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants against them. Currently, Imdadul Haque and the late Malaika Begum are on bail in the case.

According to the case statement, Shakib Al Hasan serves as Chairman of Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm Limited, based in Satkhira. In 2017, the company secured a Tk1 crore working capital loan and a Tk1.5 crore term loan from IFIC Bank’s Banani branch.

After failing to repay the working capital loan, the bank converted it into a term loan. Despite repeated notices, the company issued two cheques totaling Tk4.14 crore on September 4 this year, which bounced due to insufficient funds.

Subsequently, IFIC Bank’s Banani branch published a legal notice under the Negotiable Instruments Act, demanding repayment. After 30 days passed without payment, the bank filed the case in court.
