Chief Advisor Reiterates Dhaka’s Commitment to Strengthening Relations with Beijing

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today reiterated Bangladesh’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with China during a high-level meeting with Wang Yubo, Governor of Yunnan Province, at the State Guest House Jamuna. Welcoming the governor on his maiden visit to Bangladesh, Prof Yunus described the engagement as a step toward bridging the geographical and diplomatic gap between the two nations.

Reflecting on his recent visit to China, he termed it a pivotal moment in the evolving partnership, and extended gratitude to President Xi Jinping for his encouraging support. Both leaders explored diverse avenues of cooperation including youth exchanges, healthcare, education, vocational training, and trade in agricultural products. Governor Yubo underscored Yunnan’s role as China’s gateway to South Asia and praised the adoption of the microcredit system in Yunnan, originally pioneered by Prof Yunus. Noting the shared vision for inclusive development, the Chief Adviser welcomed expanded collaboration, especially in digital learning, language training, and medical tourism.

He acknowledged China’s designation of four hospitals in Kunming for Bangladeshi patients as a milestone in healthcare cooperation. Emphasising educational exchanges, Prof Yunus committed to increasing the number of Bangladeshi students in China. As the two nations mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, the Chief Adviser expressed Bangladesh’s resolve to work closely with China to address mutual challenges and promote shared prosperity. The meeting was also attended by Senior Secretary and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed.
