CA, Italian PM Discuss Safe Migration Of Bangladeshis

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today highlighted the issue of safe migration for Bangladeshis during a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a hotel in the USA.
“Safe migration was a key point of discussion as many Bangladeshis lose their lives in the Mediterranean while attempting to reach Italy,” Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said at a press briefing.
He noted that human traffickers often lure Bangladeshis into taking dangerous sea routes, which frequently end in tragedy.
Alam added that the Rohingya issue was also discussed, with the Italian premier confirming that her country will send a high-level delegation to the Rohingya conference at the UN headquarters in New York on September 30.
Prof Yunus urged the Italian leader to strengthen trade ties with Bangladesh, while Meloni proposed forming an Italy-Bangladesh Business Forum.
Italy reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition, and the Italian premier expressed her hope to visit Bangladesh in December.
