Bangladesh repays $699m in foreign debt during July-August

Bangladesh repaid $698.92 million in foreign loans during the first two months of the current fiscal year (FY27), according to data from the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

Of the total repayment, $516.04 million went toward principal, while $182.88 million was paid in interest.

During July-August of FY27, the country received $294.56 million in foreign loans and grants. The ERD data includes foreign assistance received by the government as well as repayments made against previously contracted external loans.

In the same period of FY26, Bangladesh received $750 million in foreign assistance.

Meanwhile, the country secured commitments for $240.39 million in foreign assistance during the first two months of FY27.
