Students at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) have launched an indefinite hunger strike, demanding the immediate resignation of Vice-Chancellor Imran Rahman.

According to local media reports, the protesters accuse the VC of dishonoring the principles of the July uprising and engaging in harassment against students. They assert that his removal is essential to ensure justice and restore the university’s integrity.

The hunger strike began on Thursday around 1 pm in front of ULAB’s main campus gate in the Basila area of Dhaka. The students claim the university administration has dismissed their concerns and adopted a "fascist" approach.

Under Imran Rahman’s leadership, they allege, the administration has harassed protesters, penalized students for drawing graffiti, and undermined the student-friendly atmosphere on campus.

In addition to the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation, the students demand the immediate dismissal of trustee board members accused of fascism and corruption. They also call for the resignation of all members of the disciplinary committee and proctorial body, holding them accountable for decisions perceived as anti-student.

The protesters further advocate for a fair reform of ULAB’s code of conduct, incorporating input from all stakeholders, including students. They also seek the removal of rules and policies that they say restrict freedom of thought, expression, and personal liberty within the university.
