The government plans to request the ICC prosecutor to pursue charges of crimes against humanity against the Hasina regime and Yunus
The ICC prosecutor expressed a willingness to collaborate with the International Crimes Tribunal, a Bangladeshi court that has issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina and members of her political party.

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim A. Khan, met with Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.
Their discussions covered the Rohingya crisis, the situation in Myanmar, humanitarian support for the Rohingya population, and accountability for atrocities committed during the July-August mass uprising in Bangladesh.
Prosecutor Khan informed the Chief Adviser that his office had formally sought an arrest warrant against Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of Myanmar’s military government, for crimes against humanity related to the treatment of the Rohingya minority. He also endorsed Professor Yunus's proposal to organize a global conference on the Rohingya crisis, which the UN General Assembly has agreed to hold in 2025.
The conference aims to bring international stakeholders together to find a sustainable solution to the crisis, particularly addressing the plight of Rohingya children growing up in refugee camps. Professor Yunus emphasized the need to prevent the situation from worsening, cautioning about the risks of young people losing hope in the camps.
Additionally, the Chief Adviser reiterated his call for the establishment of a UN-guaranteed safe zone in Myanmar's Rakhine State to protect displaced people and facilitate their eventual return to their communities.
Regarding Bangladesh's internal situation, Professor Yunus stated that the interim government would pursue charges of crimes against humanity against the Sheikh Hasina regime at the ICC, citing mass killings during the July-August uprising and numerous cases of enforced disappearances during her nearly 16-year tenure.
Prosecutor Khan expressed the ICC's willingness to cooperate with the International Crimes Tribunal, a Bangladeshi court that has issued arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina and members of her political party.
Present at the meeting were Khalilur Rahman, High Representative on Rohingya Affairs; Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs; and Riaz Hamidullah, Additional Secretary of the Foreign Ministry.
Earlier in the day, Khalilur Rahman hosted a luncheon for Prosecutor Khan and his team. He remarked, “Bangladesh is among the first Asian signatories to the Rome Statute establishing the ICC, and we look forward to strengthening our cooperation further.”
