Trump Signs Executive Order Imposing 10% Tariff on Chinese Imports

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Saturday enforcing a 10% tariff on goods imported from China.

The latest protectionist move by the US has faced widespread opposition both domestically and internationally.

According to the White House, this new tariff applies to all imports from China in addition to existing duties. Trump defended the measure, stating it aligns with his broader protectionist stance, as reported by Xinhua.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning reiterated China’s stance that trade wars and tariffs benefit no one, emphasizing the country’s commitment to safeguarding its national interests.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Commerce Spokesperson He Yadong reaffirmed China's consistent opposition to tariffs, stating that such measures are detrimental to both China, the US, and the global economy.

The executive order also imposes a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada, with a 10% tariff specifically on energy products from Canada.
