The ICT Chief Prosecutor declares 2025 as the year for the trial of heinous criminals

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Muhammad Tajul Islam, stated today (Wednesday) that 2025 will be the year for the trial of heinous criminals.

"We aim to make 2025 a year of historic significance. Our goal is to bring those responsible for committing heinous crimes over the years to trial. We are progressing with this objective in mind," the chief prosecutor remarked while greeting newsmen on the first day of the New Year at the ICT.

"A new dawn has emerged in the country, sparked by a mass uprising led by students, and we have entered the year free from autocracy. We have several priorities for 2025, with the foremost being the fair and accurate trial of all crimes against humanity, genocides, and acts of oppression committed in the country over the past 16 years," he continued.

Acknowledging the immense pressure and expectations placed on the tribunal, the chief prosecutor emphasized the importance of ensuring justice for the long-standing crimes committed in the country.

"It is crucial to deliver justice to secure a bright future for Bangladesh's next generation and help rebuild their future. A thorough investigation and accurate reporting are essential for the proper completion of the ICT trial process. The investigation is ongoing, and both the initiation and conclusion of the trial are tied to the outcome of this probe," he concluded.
