Miller: The US seeks respect for religious freedom in Bangladesh

The United States has expressed its desire for religious freedom to be respected in Bangladesh.

"We have clearly stated in our discussions with Bangladeshi officials that we want to see freedom of religion upheld," US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters during a regular briefing in Washington on November 7. Miller emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for any attacks, in accordance with Bangladeshi law.

He further noted that this stance applies not only to Bangladesh but to all countries around the world.

Meanwhile, India has called on the interim government in Bangladesh to take steps to ensure the safety of the Hindu community.

"We once again urge the government of Bangladesh to take strong action to safeguard Hindus and address extremist elements," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a regular briefing in New Delhi on Thursday.

Jaiswal pointed out that recent attacks on Hindus in Chattogram have been observed, warning that such incidents could lead to further tensions within the community.
