Home Adviser Calls on Journalists to Counter Indian Misinformation

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury accused the Indian media of spreading propaganda against Bangladesh and urged local journalists to counteract the misinformation. “Media in our neighboring country is disseminating false news about Bangladesh. It is the responsibility of Bangladeshi journalists to expose the truth and hold them accountable for their lies,” he stated during a visit to the family of Abu Sayed in Rangpur's Pirganj.

Expressing confidence in the professionalism of Bangladeshi journalists, he encouraged them to uncover the truth and address corruption, even within government institutions. “If you discover any corruption, even if it involves me, report it,” he urged.

Commenting on Abu Sayed's case, the adviser commended his courage and announced government plans to establish a foundation in Sayed's name. He also confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to Sayed’s murder and assured the public that the trial would commence soon. “No one will be spared,” he declared.

Addressing concerns about police recruitment irregularities, the adviser emphasized that no reports of corruption had emerged so far. “If any misconduct is found, report it, and we will ensure action is taken,” he added.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Major General Asfaquzzaman, Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB); AKM Shahidur Rahman, Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB); Aminul Islam, DIG of Rangpur Range; and Mohammad Sharif Uddin, Superintendent of Police.

Following the visit, the adviser distributed winter clothing to underprivileged locals and held meetings with regional law enforcement and agricultural officers at the Rangpur Police Lines Auditorium.
