Former Secretary Nasir Uddin appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)

Retired secretary AMM Nasir Uddin has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The cabinet issued a gazette notification confirming the appointment on Thursday.
The interim government, led by Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus, also appointed four additional election commissioners. Along with the CEC, the new commissioners are former additional secretary Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, retired district and sessions judge Abdur Rahmanel Masud, former joint secretary Tahmida Ahmed, and retired brigadier general Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
Nasir Uddin was one of the two candidates proposed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the CEC role. He previously served in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as well as the Ministry of Health. A member of the BCS (Administration) 1979 batch, Nasir Uddin retired in January 2009.
The BNP had suggested Nasir Uddin and Shafiqul Islam as potential candidates for the CEC position to the search committee tasked with forming the Election Commission.
