On Tuesday night, unidentified assailants fatally attacked the ward committee secretary of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Rajbari.

The incident occurred in the Beradanga area of Rajbari Sadar Upazila, where 22-year-old Tanvir Sheikh was attacked. Tanvir, the son of Babu Sikder from Binodpur in Sadar Upazila, was the general secretary of the local ward's Chhatra League. Despite the expiration of the committee's term, Tanvir had continued in the role since December 23, 2020, according to Rajbari Municipality Chhatra League president Arfanul Haque Antor. Tanvir was also a second-year Higher Secondary student at Dr. Abul Hossain University College.

Around 9:00 pm, locals reported, four attackers confronted Tanvir near his home and hacked him for 5-6 minutes, leaving severe injuries to his abdomen. The attackers fled, leaving him critically wounded. His family rushed him to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, and due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. However, he passed away en route around 10:00 pm.

Family sources stated that Tanvir had gone to a nearby shop to buy eggs when he was attacked. A family member, speaking anonymously, suggested the killing was politically motivated, noting that Tanvir had received threats and had avoided attending college for some time. Recently, his family had sent him to Bandarban for a break, and he had returned home that Tuesday evening.

Rajbari's Additional Superintendent of Police, Sharif Al Rajib, confirmed Tanvir’s death and stated that an investigation into the incident is underway.
