Banks have been instructed to freeze the accounts of the Bashundhara Group chairman and seven of his family members.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has requested transaction details for all accounts associated with these individuals and their businesses. The BFIU has imposed a one-month freeze on the bank accounts of Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, chairman of Bashundhara Group, one of the country's largest industrial conglomerates, along with seven members of his family.

On Sunday, the BFIU sent notices to banks nationwide, directing them to suspend transactions on the personal accounts of these eight individuals, including Sobhan's sons Sadat Sobhan, Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir, Sayem Sobhan Anvir, and Safwan Sobhan, as well as his daughters-in-law Sonia Ferdousi Sobhan, Sabrina Sobhan, and Yeasha Sobhan.

The letter also instructed banks to freeze accounts held by sole proprietorships under the names of these individuals.

Additionally, the BFIU requested details on transactions from all accounts linked to these individuals and their businesses, as well as information on loans taken out by them or their companies, including account numbers, current balances, and any defaults.

Banks were further directed to submit import and export-related details, including bills and locker information, within two business days of receiving the letter.
