Anu Muhammad: A new extortion group is reemerging

Anu Muhammad, former professor of the economics department at Jahangirnagar University, has stated that extortion has resurfaced in many areas following the fall of the Awami League government amid the student-people's uprising.
He pointed out that a new group of extortionists has emerged, and the harassment by market leaseholders continues unabated. He urged the government to take strong action against these activities.
Professor Anu Muhammad made these comments during a press conference at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday morning. The press conference, titled "How far has the proposal for immediate actions by the interim government been implemented in 100 days?" was organized by the Ganatantrik Odhikar Committee.
On 5 October, the Ganatantrik Odhikar Committee presented a 13-point demand, and Anu Muhammad, a member of the committee, reviewed the progress of implementing these demands.
