Third day of EC appeal hearings begins
Appeals listed under serial numbers 141 to 210 are being heard on Monday, the EC said.
The third day of hearings on appeals against returning officers’ decisions on the scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election began on Monday.
The hearings commenced at 10:00am at the Election Commission (EC) auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
EC sources said appeals listed under serial numbers 141 to 210 are being heard on Monday, with the proceedings scheduled to continue until 5:00pm.
Earlier, the first day of appeal hearings on Saturday (10 January) reviewed cases numbered from 1 to 70. Of these, 51 appeals against the rejection of nomination papers were accepted.
An appeal challenging the acceptance of a nomination paper was also upheld, leading to the cancellation of the nomination of independent candidate S A K Ekramuzzaman from the Brahmanbaria-1 constituency. Additionally, 15 appeals were dismissed and three applications were kept pending on the first day.
On Sunday, the second day of hearings covered cases numbered from 71 to 140, with 57 appeals against the rejection of nomination papers allowed.
According to the EC schedule, hearings on appeals numbered from 211 to 280 will take place on Tuesday (13 January). The hearings are being held daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
As per the election roadmap, the deadline for withdrawal of candidacy for the 13th National Parliamentary Election is 20 January. The final list of candidates, along with electoral symbols, will be published by returning officers on 21 January.
Election campaigning will begin on 22 January and continue until 7:30am on 10 February. Polling is scheduled for 12 February (Thursday), from 7:30am to 4:30pm without a break.
