“Tarique Rahman pledges national reconstruction if BNP wins power”

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that if his party forms the government with public backing, its foremost duty will be to rebuild the country.

He emphasised that national reconstruction cannot be carried out by any single group alone and must involve people from all political affiliations, social classes and professions.

Tarique Rahman made the remarks on Monday while addressing an election rally organised by the Khulna Metropolitan and District units of the BNP.

“The country must be rebuilt by including everyone, irrespective of party, opinion, class or profession. Rebuilding a nation is not possible by depending on only one group,” he said.

Referring to comments allegedly made by a leader of another political party, the BNP chairperson said the individual had publicly stated a lack of faith in women’s leadership and had also made derogatory remarks about women seeking employment.

“I feel ashamed to even repeat the word that was used against our mothers and sisters. Such language is a disgrace to our country,” he said.

Tarique Rahman added that after strong criticism from across society, it was later claimed that the leader’s social media account had been hacked, a claim experts have dismissed as implausible.

“A senior political leader is misleading the public ahead of an election, and the party itself is spreading falsehoods by saying the account was hacked. This is their true character—they lie,” he alleged.

He further said such groups prioritise self-interest and exploit religion to safeguard their own agendas.

The remarks come ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum in 2026.
