Six city corporations, including DNCC and DSCC, receive new administrators
The order has been issued in the public interest and comes into force with immediate effect.
The government has appointed full-time administrators to six city corporations — including Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation — to serve until new corporations are constituted.
The Local Government Division (LGD) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notification in this regard on Sunday, invoking Section 25 (ka), sub-section (1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
Under the order, Md Abdus Salam has been appointed administrator of DSCC, while Md Shafiqul Islam Khan will oversee DNCC. Nazrul Islam Monju has been assigned to Khulna City Corporation, Abdul Quayum Chowdhury to Sylhet City Corporation, Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan to Narayanganj City Corporation, and Md Shawakat Hossain Sarkar to Gazipur City Corporation.
According to the notification, the administrators will carry out the powers and responsibilities of the mayor under sub-section (3) of Section 25 (ka) of the Ordinance and will receive allowances as per existing rules.
The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.
