Nahid: New Constitution Key to a New Bangladesh
New Constitution Can Rebuild State-People Trust: NCP’s Nahid Islam

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has emphasized that drafting a new constitution is a prerequisite for building a new Bangladesh.
Speaking at a discussion on constitutional reform at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Sunday, Nahid stated that past constitutions have failed to safeguard human rights, and a new one is essential to restoring trust and connection between the state and its citizens.
“We must pursue fundamental reforms,” he stressed, warning that superficial consensus without agreement on core issues would not bring meaningful change.
Addressing calls to ban the Awami League's politics, Nahid noted that judicial proceedings are already underway and called for a transparent roadmap to reinforce public confidence.
He added that if there is broad agreement on reform, objections to the election process would be unwarranted.
“With mutual understanding, I believe we can make progress soon,” he concluded.
