BNP Leaders Meet Chief Adviser, Discuss Election Preparations

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today held a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to discuss the government’s preparations for the upcoming national election scheduled for February next year.

According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the discussions were held in detail at the State Guest House Jamuna in the evening, where a three-member BNP delegation met the Chief Adviser.

The BNP delegation comprised Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed.

Planning Adviser Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul, and Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan were also present during the meeting.

During the discussions, BNP leaders urged the Chief Adviser to ensure that controversial officials—particularly those who served in election duties under the previous Awami League regime—are not assigned to election-related responsibilities this time. They also called for neutrality in administrative reshuffles ahead of the polls.

In response, Professor Yunus assured them that, as the adviser in charge of the Ministry of Public Administration, all transfers and postings before the election would be made under his direct supervision.

“Our duty is to remain neutral. The election is a major event. We will appoint capable officials who can maintain peace and order. This process will remain under my supervision to ensure a peaceful and impartial election,” he said.

The BNP leaders also raised concerns over the appointment and transfer process within the police department and shared their observations with the Chief Adviser.

They congratulated the government for including political leaders in the UN General Assembly (UNGA) delegation and successfully organizing the signing ceremony of the ‘July National Charter 2025.’

Additionally, BNP leaders expressed deep concern over recent fire incidents in several establishments across the country and called for investigations to determine whether they were acts of sabotage.

As part of the ongoing political dialogue, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to meet a delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami next.
