BCL leader detained for alleged ‘offensive’ remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Police have apprehended a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Singra upazila of Natore for allegedly making offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook.
Sakibul Hasan Swachchha, the general secretary of Ward-6 of the Chhatra League's Ramananda Khajura Union unit, was arrested from the Singra Bazar area around midnight on Sunday, according to Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asmaul Haque.
As per police and local sources, Swachchha had posted derogatory comments about the Prophet (PBUH) in response to a political post on Facebook.
As his remarks circulated online, outraged locals gathered at Singra Police Station around 10:00 pm, demanding action and submitting a written complaint.
In response, police swiftly launched an operation and detained Swachchha from the Singra Bazar area, the OC stated.
He is set to be presented before the court on Monday in a defamation case, the OC added.
