BB to Issue New Currency Notes Showcasing Historic and Archaeological Sites Starting June 1

Bangladesh Bank (BB) is launching a new series of banknotes in all denominations (Tk 1,000, Tk 500, Tk 200, Tk 100, Tk 50, Tk 20, Tk 10, Tk 5, and Tk 2) featuring the theme “Historic and Archaeological Structures of Bangladesh.” According to a BB press release on Thursday, the central bank will begin issuing new Tk 1,000, Tk 50, and Tk 20 notes starting June 1, ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. These newly designed notes will first be distributed from BB’s Motijheel office, followed by other branch offices nationwide, reports BSS. The bank also confirmed that existing paper notes and metal coins will remain in circulation alongside the new notes. Additionally, to cater to currency collectors, Bangladesh Bank has printed non-exchangeable specimen notes of Tk 1,000, Tk 50, and Tk 20, which can be purchased at fixed prices from the Currency Museum in Mirpur.
