The Bangladesh Army has launched a court of inquiry to probe the alleged political involvement of an unnamed officer, acting on intelligence provided by a law enforcement agency.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Friday, the officer was taken into custody after being detained from his residence in Dhaka’s Uttara on July 17. His name and rank have not been disclosed.

The ISPR noted that the Army is addressing the matter with "utmost seriousness." A preliminary investigation has already uncovered evidence supporting the allegations, it said.

“Appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in line with military laws and regulations based on the outcome of the full investigation,” the statement added.

The Army is also working in coordination with the police and other law enforcement bodies. Additionally, a separate inquiry is underway regarding the officer’s unauthorised absence from duty.

“Following the conclusion of the inquiry, legal steps will be taken as per the court’s findings and command responsibility under military law,” the ISPR said.

Reaffirming its institutional stance, the ISPR stressed that the Bangladesh Army is a non-political, disciplined, and professional force with no tolerance for political affiliations within its ranks.

“Any member of the Armed Forces found to be engaged in political activities will face appropriate legal consequences under military law. The Bangladesh Army remains firmly committed to professionalism, discipline, and its constitutional duties.”
