Trishna’s hat-trick powers Bangladesh to emphatic 8-0 win over Timor-Leste

A brilliant hat-trick from Sree Moti Trishna Rani propelled the Bangladesh Under-20 women’s national team to a resounding 8-0 victory over Timor-Leste in their second group-stage match of the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers at the New Laos National Stadium in Vientiane on Friday.

Riding high from a 3-1 win over hosts Laos in their opener, coach Peter Butler named an unchanged lineup against a Timor-Leste side coming off a 9-0 thrashing at the hands of Korea Republic. The young Tigresses came out firing, dominating possession and attacking relentlessly from the start.

Bangladesh broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Sinha Jahan Sikha headed in a well-placed corner from Sapna Rani. Twelve minutes later, Shanti Mardi produced a moment of brilliance with an “Olympic goal,” curling her corner kick from the right directly into the net as the opposing goalkeeper misjudged the flight.

Shanti turned provider again in the 35th minute, delivering another precise corner that Nabiran Khatun nodded home. Just before halftime, a flowing team move ended with Trishna calmly slotting in her first goal of the match, sending Bangladesh into the break 4-0 up.

The onslaught continued in the second half. Trishna struck again soon after the restart, finishing off a slick move involving Joynob Bibi Rita and Sikha. In the 72nd minute, Mst Sagorika made it six, rounding the keeper before scoring. Ten minutes later, she turned provider, assisting Trishna’s third to complete her hat-trick.

Midfielder Munki Akhter capped off the rout with a stoppage-time goal, putting the finishing touch on a dominant performance.

With two convincing wins, Bangladesh remain firmly in contention for a spot in the 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup. They will face group leaders Korea Republic on Sunday, with group winners and the three best runners-up qualifying for the tournament.
