Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today encouraged citizens to file e-returns and pay their income tax online.

In a video message released from his press wing, he said, "Dear countrymen, I have a few words on income tax. The tax you pay is a primary force driving our economy, yet many face hassles when trying to pay their taxes to the government."

He explained that, going forward, there is no need to stand in long lines at banks or visit tax offices to file returns. “You can now submit your income tax return from home, making the process much more convenient," he noted. Filing e-returns has now been made mandatory for government officials in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur, as well as for employees of scheduled banks, mobile operators, and various multinational companies.

Professor Yunus also urged other eligible citizens to utilize the online e-return system. Additionally, he encouraged competition among organizations at the district and city levels for submitting their officials' e-returns, with the possibility of winning state awards.

He called on everyone to teach their relatives, neighbors, and friends how to file income taxes online, and he encouraged young people to support taxpayers in using the online system. “This is an opportunity to start preparing to become future entrepreneurs,” he remarked, adding that the government is gradually working to facilitate online tax collection across the board.

“I hope that your experience with filing income tax returns will now be smooth and hassle-free,” he concluded.
