Former Member of Parliament and Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman has been sent to jail after the conclusion of his five-day remand. On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah denied his bail request and ordered his detention.

Following the completion of the remand, Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim from Mirpur Model Police Station presented Barrister Suman in court, requesting that he remain in custody. Suman's defense team applied for bail, but the state opposed the request. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ultimately rejected the bail plea and ordered his imprisonment.

Barrister Suman was initially detained late on October 21 in Mirpur-6, Dhaka, in connection with an attempted murder case involving Juba Dal leader Hridoy Mia, assistant chef at Mirpur’s Bangaliyana Bhoj. According to the case details, Hridoy attended a rally on July 19 during student protests at Mirpur-10, where Awami League affiliates allegedly attacked the gathering, threw crude bombs, and fired shots, leaving Hridoy injured by gunfire. Hridoy, a senior vice president of the Jubo Dal’s Chhatiain union unit in Madhabpur, Habiganj, later filed a case on September 23, naming Suman as the third accused.

Prior to his arrest, around 1:15 a.m., Suman posted a message on his verified Facebook account stating, “I am going with the police. See you in court. Please pray for me.”

In January's 12th general election, Suman sought the Awami League nomination but ran independently after not receiving it. He won the seat for Habiganj-4, defeating the Awami League’s candidate and former State Minister for Civil Aviation, Md Mahbub Ali.
