A teenage boy dies from gunshot wounds following a shooting at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka
A 13-year-old boy, Md Rahmat, also known as Surgeon, has died from gunshot wounds after being caught in crossfire between two rival groups at Geneva Camp in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area.
Rahmat passed away at around 8 a.m. on Monday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he had been admitted to the ICU following the shooting incident on Saturday. According to Inspector Md Faruk, head of the DMCH Police Camp, his body has been sent to the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.
The shootout reportedly erupted between two groups at Geneva Camp around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Rahmat's older brother, Mohammad Murad, shared that Rahmat had gone out to fetch water when he was struck in the chest, right hand, and lower torso.
Initially taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital, Rahmat was later transferred to DMCH for further treatment. The boy was the youngest son of Shamser Ali, a barbershop worker.
Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, frequent clashes have broken out between gangs vying for control over the local drug trade. Rahmat’s death brings the toll from these violent incidents to four. Some sources suggest that weapons seized from police stations may be hidden within Geneva Camp.
