Woman sexually assaulted in Munshiganj, three arrested

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by her husband's friend and his associates on Domrakhali Char in the Padma River, Munshiganj, on the evening of February 16, according to police.  

The incident took place between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM, as stated by Zakir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Padma Bridge (North) Police Station.  

During a press briefing, Munshiganj District Police confirmed that the victim filed a written complaint the next day, identifying four suspects.  

Following an initial investigation, police found evidence supporting her claims and registered a case on February 18. Three accused individuals—Md Jamal Molla (23), Yamin Munshi (19), and Jabbar Sheikh (18)—were arrested and presented in court, where they provided confessional statements under Section 164. They were subsequently sent to jail.  

However, one suspect, Abu Bakar Siddique (22), is still at large.  

According to the police, the victim had been waiting for a boat at the old Mawa ferry ghat to travel to her husband's home in Uttar Charjanajat when her husband's friend, Abu Bakar, along with Jamal, offered her a ride on a trawler.  

Midway, the other two suspects boarded the vessel, and the four men allegedly assaulted her on the char.  

Later, the suspects dropped the victim near the old Coast Guard station in Mawa around 9:00 PM, threatened her against reporting the incident, and fled.  

Police recovered two smartphones from the arrested suspects, which have been sent to the CID forensic lab for analysis.  

Additionally, the trawler used in the crime has been seized.  

The victim has undergone medical examination, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend Abu Bakar, who remains at large, the OC added.
