Uranium Shipment Arrives at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant
A convoy transporting uranium fuel has arrived at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna, under tight security.
The convoy reached the project site at around 12:30pm on Saturday, Pabna Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam confirmed.
“The convoy carrying the first uranium shipment for the plant’s second unit reached Rooppur after 12:30pm,” he said.
The convoy departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Rooppur at around 7:15am, escorted by the Bangladesh Army.
Three lorries carried the uranium, while another vehicle transported other equipment. A team of Russian experts accompanying the shipment also travelled with the convoy.
Members of the Bangladesh Army, police, Special Security and Protection Battalion (SSPB), and various intelligence agencies were deployed to ensure security throughout the journey.
A special cargo aircraft carrying the uranium for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:30pm on Friday.
The shipment will be used for the initial fuel loading of Unit 2 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which is being developed with Russian technical and financial assistance.
