Tremors from an earthquake were felt in Sylhet

An earthquake was felt in the Bangladesh–India border region near Sylhet, with tremors experienced by residents at around 9:21am on Sunday.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the quake originated in Silchar and measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. Its effects were also felt in Sylhet and adjacent border areas of Bangladesh.

Earlier, on April 7, another earthquake of magnitude 4.9 struck the same region at 2:48pm Bangladesh time, with tremors similarly felt across Sylhet and nearby areas.

No damage has been reported from the latest quake so far, though the sudden tremor triggered panic among residents in the affected border regions.
