During the meeting, the delegation reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a robust Bangladesh-U.S. economic partnership and pledged to support efforts that foster mutually beneficial commercial ties between the two countries.
The delegation was led by Peter Haas, former U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh and Strategic Advisor at Excelerate Energy, and included senior representatives from major American firms such as Meta, Visa, Chevron, Uber, MetLife, Mastercard, Boeing, and the U.S. Soybean Export Council. Excelerate Energy currently chairs the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council.
Held on the sidelines of the Bangladesh Investment Summit, the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral trade and investment. According to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, U.S. companies emphasized their desire to maintain a constructive and forward-looking relationship with the Interim Government to promote strong economic collaboration.
“U.S. companies remain deeply committed to Bangladesh’s growth journey—one defined by resilience, entrepreneurship, and long-term prosperity,” said Haas.
The delegation welcomed the Interim Government’s proactive stance on economic reforms, particularly those aimed at reducing trade and non-tariff barriers.
Nisha Desai Biswal, former Deputy CEO of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, echoed this sentiment, reiterating the commitment of U.S. investors to Bangladesh’s development. She emphasized the importance of addressing trade imbalances and exploring avenues to attract additional U.S. investment.
“American companies are integral to Bangladesh’s growth story,” Biswal stated. “We want to ensure Bangladesh is well-positioned in global trade discussions, particularly as tariff negotiations continue.”
Professor Yunus expressed his appreciation for the contributions of American businesses and assured the delegation of the Interim Government’s full support in addressing challenges and improving the ease of doing business in Bangladesh.
