Tarique Rahman urges people to support those working to build the nation.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday called on citizens to support those who are contributing, directly or indirectly, to the country's development and nation-building efforts.
He made the appeal while addressing a programme for the distribution of food and clothing among underprivileged people, organised to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
Tarique Rahman said the most meaningful way to honour the late President would be for people from all walks of life to carry out their responsibilities and extend assistance from their respective positions.
“On the occasion of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s martyrdom anniversary, each of us should reach out to others in society in whatever way we can. Supporting one another as responsible citizens would be a genuine tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman,” he said.
Making a heartfelt appeal to the nation, he urged citizens to lend their support to those working for the country’s progress and development.
“Let us all come forward today. From our respective positions, let us stand by and assist those who are working, directly or indirectly, to advance the nation,” he said.
Addressing party leaders and activists at the event, Tarique Rahman said he would keep his remarks brief as the programme was being held on a public road, causing inconvenience to commuters.
He, however, indicated that discussions on organisational matters and future strategies would take place in the near future.
“Insha Allah, we will meet again very soon with our organisational leaders and activists. We will discuss how to further strengthen the party and chart our future course of action,” he added.
