Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrives in his hometown of Bogura.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in his hometown of Bogura on Monday, marking his first visit to the district since taking office.
The BNP chairperson travelled by road from his Dhaka residence as part of a series of development initiatives and reached the Bogura Circuit House around 9:55am.
According to his schedule, he is set to inaugurate the e-bail bond service at the Bogura Judge Court at 11:00am. He will also unveil the plaque of the Bogura City Corporation and formally launch its operations.
During the day-long visit, he is expected to visit his ancestral home, Zia Bari, in Bagbari under Gabtoli upazila—his first trip there in 19 years. The visit has generated a strong emotional response among locals alongside expectations of fulfilling election pledges.
“It is a matter of great pride that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is a son of our soil,” said Naogaon University Vice Chancellor Professor Md Hasanath Ali, a native of Bogura.
He noted that the district had previously seen Ziaur Rahman rise to the presidency and visit Bogura several times during his tenure. He added that Khaleda Zia also visited the district frequently while serving as Prime Minister.
“Tarique Rahman’s visit continues that legacy,” he said, adding that the leader began his political journey in Bogura and has maintained a deep connection with the district over the years. “Our expectations from him are naturally high.”
Dr Hasanath expressed hope that the Prime Minister’s visit would accelerate development in the region, particularly through the expansion of agriculture- and industry-based economic infrastructure.
