Prime Minister said Ramisa’s killer will face capital punishment within a month.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday said the government would ensure the highest punishment for the killer of seven-year-old Ramisa Akter within a month.

He made the statement while addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day programme marking the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the Nazrul Award 2025 ceremony at Nazrul Mancha in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh.

The Prime Minister said the government would show zero tolerance towards any form of abuse against children and women, adding that swift legal action would be taken to ensure the maximum punishment for Ramisa’s killer within one month.

He said the punishment would be the death penalty, aimed at preventing similar crimes in the future.

Highlighting the importance of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s legacy, he stressed the need to further promote the poet’s life and works in world literature and pass on his ideals to future generations.

He also proposed exploring the possibility of declaring Trishal a “Nazrul City” and asked the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Tourism Department to examine its feasibility.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh and Kazi Nazrul Islam are inseparably linked, describing the poet as a true symbol of the nation’s identity, consciousness and nationalism.

Noting that 25 May marks the 127th birth anniversary of the national poet, he paid tribute to Nazrul’s enduring contributions.

He further said the national-level observance of Nazrul Jayanti had not been held in Trishal since 2006, adding that the government was proud to revive the state-level celebration there after nearly two decades.
