Prime Minister inaugurates honorarium scheme for imams, religious leaders

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday morning inaugurated a monthly honorarium programme for mosque imams, muezzins, khadims and other religious leaders.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka at 10:00am.

The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to implement one of its key election pledges.

Officials at the event said that under the pilot programme, thousands of religious service providers across the country are being brought under a monthly stipend scheme.

The government hopes the initiative will improve the livelihoods of those serving in religious institutions while ensuring greater social recognition for their contributions.
