President and Prime Minister attend Independence Day parade
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the Independence and National Day parade at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka on Thursday morning.
They arrived at the venue around 10:00am and were received by the Minister and State Minister for Liberation War Affairs, as well as the chiefs of the three armed services.
The অনুষ্ঠানে was attended by cabinet members, senior government officials, ambassadors, and both local and foreign guests.
Following the national anthem, President Shahabuddin—also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces—was accorded a guard of honour.
He later inspected the parade in an open jeep alongside Parade Commander Major General SM Asadul Haque, before returning to the saluting dais to receive the parade salute.
After a break of nearly one and a half decades, the traditional parade resumed this year to mark Independence Day on March 26. The event highlighted the country’s defence capabilities on land and in the air, featuring participation from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and various law enforcement agencies.
The parade formally began with the entry of the commander on horseback. Major General Asadul Haque, General Officer Commanding of the 9th Infantry Division, led the parade.
This year’s display included contingents from armoured, artillery, signals, East Bengal, air defence, services, para-commando, naval, and modernised infantry units. Paratroopers were scheduled to descend with the national flag, accompanied by aerial manoeuvres by the Air Force.
The অনুষ্ঠান concluded with a flypast of MiG-29 fighter jets in salute to the President.
