Iranian Media Claim US Aircraft Shot Down; Washington Denies Report
If confirmed, the latest hostilities could further complicate President Donald Trump’s approval of a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at extending the ceasefire with Iran.
Iranian air defences shot down a US aircraft over Jam governorate in Bushehr province early শুক্রবার, according to reports by state-run IRIB television and the semi-official Tasnim news agency citing officials.
The US military, however, rejected the claim, stating that “all US air assets are accounted for.”
Earlier, Jam County Governor Masoud Tangestani told local media that the “hostile aircraft” had been brought down over the area, adding that the situation in nearby urban centres later returned to normal.
The reports emerged just hours after speculation spread that Washington and Tehran had reached a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end the conflict and extend the existing ceasefire by 60 days.
However, US President Donald Trump had yet to approve the agreement. If confirmed, the reported downing of a US aircraft could further complicate the decision.
