Bridge Collapse Severs Bandarban-Rangamati Road Link Amid Heavy Rain

Road communication between Bandarban and Rangamati was cut off on Saturday after a bridge collapsed under the force of strong flood currents following days of heavy rainfall.

The bridge gave way in the Dudhpukuria-Padua area of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram, around 20 kilometres from Bandarban Sadar.

According to local sources, powerful floodwaters struck the bridge, causing it to collapse and bringing all vehicular movement on the Bandarban-Rangamati road to a halt.

The disruption has caused severe hardship for residents on both sides of the route, prompting locals to demand immediate alternative crossing arrangements and the construction of a new bridge to restore connectivity.

Officials from the local administration and relevant authorities visited the site after being informed of the collapse.

Authorities said they are assessing the extent of the damage and taking necessary steps to restore road communication as quickly as possible.
