Bangladesh has been placed 13th from the bottom among 182 countries, scoring 24 out of 100 in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025—well below the global average of 42.

Although the country’s score rose by one point from last year, its position in the global ranking slipped by one place, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) said. In 2024, Bangladesh ranked 14th among the most corrupt nations.

TIB released the CPI 2025 on Monday at the MIDAS Centre in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, with Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman presenting the findings.

The index draws on data collected between November 2022 and September 2025 and measures perceived levels of public-sector corruption on a scale of 0 to 100, where lower scores indicate higher corruption.

Bangladesh’s score improved to 24 from 23 in 2024, but the decline in ranking underscores ongoing difficulties in curbing corruption.

Describing the result as “very disappointing,” Iftekharuzzaman warned that Bangladesh is “losing control of corruption.”

The CPI 2025 offers a global overview of corruption trends, highlighting countries that are improving, declining or stagnating, as well as the global, regional and national factors driving corruption.
