Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan on Monday held talks with Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Dhaka, Imran Haider, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties through greater cooperation in media, culture and knowledge exchange.

The meeting, held at the minister’s office, began with the envoy congratulating Swapan on assuming his new role.

Both sides discussed ways to deepen engagement between the two countries, particularly in the fast-evolving media landscape.

Swapan said the rise of new media platforms has created fresh opportunities for collaboration. “There is considerable scope to explore new areas of cooperation in the media sector based on shared interests,” he noted.

The talks also highlighted the importance of enhancing people-to-people contact, with both sides underscoring the role of cultural exchange in bringing the two nations closer. Proposals included increasing visits by artists and performers, as well as pursuing joint productions.

Education and knowledge-sharing initiatives were another key focus, including plans to expand student exchange programmes under a proposed Bangladesh-Pakistan “knowledge corridor,” with an emphasis on science-based learning.

The two sides also agreed to boost existing cooperation between Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

During the meeting, the High Commissioner invited the minister to visit Pakistan, expressing hope that such exchanges would further strengthen bilateral relations.
