Auto-Rickshaw Driver Raped, Strangled Schoolgirl Tajmin to Death: Police

Police have cracked the murder case of schoolgirl Jannatul Tajmin in Cumilla, identifying an auto-rickshaw driver named Sumon as the alleged attacker who raped and strangled her to death, officials said on Saturday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Pankaj Barua revealed the findings at a press conference held at the district police superintendent’s office at 10:30am on October 10. Tajmin’s body was recovered from a paddy field in Jagatpur village of Lalmai upazila on Thursday morning.

Tajmin was the daughter of Abdul Alim, a resident of Chhatianatala village in Jashore Sadar upazila, and a Class VII student at Farida Bidyayatan School in Cumilla city. Her father is employed by a pharmaceutical company in Cumilla, and the family lives in a rented apartment in the city’s Racecourse area.

Following her daughter’s death, Abdul Alim filed a murder case with Lalmai Police Station against unidentified individuals.
