The Constitution Reform Commission has proposed the establishment of a bicameral legislature, consisting of an upper house (Senate) and a lower house (National Assembly), aiming to enhance the dynamism and functionality of Parliament.

Under the proposal, both chambers would have a four-year term, and individuals would be limited to serving as prime minister for a maximum of two consecutive terms.

The prime minister would also be prohibited from simultaneously holding the position of head of any political party or leader of Parliament.

The recommendations, presented by Constitution Reform Commission head Prof. Ali Riaz to Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday, also include setting the minimum age for parliamentary candidates at 21.

Currently, the parliamentary term is five years, with a minimum age of 25 for candidates, and there is no age limit for becoming prime minister.
