Palestinian activist awarded for Peace
Palestinian activist Issa Amro accepted the Right Livelihood Award on Thursday for his commitment to "nonviolent resistance to Israel's illegal occupation" in the West Bank, according to the award jury. Born in the flashpoint city of Hebron, where approximately 1,000 Jewish settlers live under heavy military protection among 200,000 Palestinians, Amro has devoted his life to opposing Israel's occupation. The 44-year-old founded Youth Against Settlements, a group dedicated to campaigning against the spread of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, which are broadly considered illegal under international law.
