The UK-Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI), a leading organization representing British-Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, has announced plans to expand its business operations and investments in Bangladesh.

A 22-member UKBCCI delegation met with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) on Saturday, advocating for an investment-friendly environment to attract British investors and stimulate economic growth.

The delegation, headed by UKBCCI Chairman Iqbal Ahmed OBE, is on a visit to Bangladesh to strengthen bilateral ties and explore business opportunities. Key members of the delegation include British MP Dr. Rupa Huq, UKBCCI President MG Moula Miah MBE, Founder President Bajloor Rashid MBE, and other notable business leaders and professionals, according to a UNB report.

BIDA Chairman Ashiq Mahmud bin Haroon presided over the meeting, which was also attended by Managing Director Gazi AKM Fazlul Haque and Secretary Dr. Dewan Chowdhury.

British MP Dr. Rupa Huq highlighted Bangladesh’s significant investment potential, particularly in sectors such as energy, railways, telecommunications, IT, pharmaceuticals, light engineering, education, and ready-made garments (RMG). She described Bangladesh as one of the most profitable destinations for foreign investment and urged the government to simplify investment processes and provide comprehensive support to attract international investors.

“Bangladesh's special economic zones and hi-tech parks present exceptional opportunities for both local and foreign investors,” Dr. Huq stated, emphasizing the strong trade and economic ties between the UK and Bangladesh. She also noted British companies' active involvement in agriculture, garments, and pharmaceuticals.

UKBCCI Chair Iqbal Ahmed expressed interest in exploring opportunities in ICT, garments, infrastructure, engineering, logistics, tourism, financial services, and other industries. He highlighted the importance of collaboration in promoting prosperity for both nations.

Founder President Bajloor Rashid shared positive feedback from discussions with public and private sector leaders, including BIDA officials and business representatives. The delegation commended the Bangladeshi government’s efforts in developing investment-friendly economic zones and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation for mutual growth and development.
