The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has introduced a dedicated pink-coloured bus service exclusively for women, aimed at providing safer and more comfortable public transport for working women in urban areas. The buses will be operated entirely by female drivers and conductors.

The women-only service was inaugurated on Tuesday morning (18 August) at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot in Tejgaon.

Speaking at the inauguration, Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to fulfil its election manifesto.

He said the pink bus service would not only provide women with safer and more comfortable transportation but also help increase women’s participation in the public transport sector by creating employment opportunities as drivers and conductors.

State Minister for Railways and the Road Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque, and Women and Children’s Affairs Ministry Secretary Yasmin attended the event as special guests.

BRTC Chairman (Additional Secretary) Abdul Latif Molla chaired the inauguration ceremony.
